of Online Stores, and Thanksgiving Proclamations

The online store is open!

There have been a lot of unexpected delays with this album, and we are so grateful for everyone being so patient with us throughout it all, that in the spirit of Thanksgiving we issue this proclamation:

For this week you can download "Marley Thorn and the Bubblegun" for $3.99!

Marley Thorn: Marley Thorn and the Bubblegun

Our CDs are expected to arrive with our distributor, CDBaby, a bit later today- which will enable sales for physical copies- until then we have the downloadable album available.

of Online Distributors, and Delicious Baked Goods

Well… Marley Thorn are ready to release their album, and for all intents and purposes it IS released.
However, our distributor has not received our shipment of stock to them, so no dice so far on the online sales. We’re expecting to have everything set up if not by today, then by tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted!

Thanks very much to the Grainery for having us this past Saturday for their Pepsi Refresh Voting Benefit- and for their delicious baked goods of which we are now fully stocked. Their race for the Pepsi Refresh Grant is still going though- so please visit http://www.refresheverything.com/rockyountartcenter and take a few moments to sign in and vote- it all helps greatly!
We were happy to again be joined by Air Lightly on stage, who sang a few songs from our exciting upcoming project, and quenched our classic rock thirst with a cover by the Who and even “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath for good measure.
We have some videos from the show uploaded to our youtube channel, here’s one to tickle your fancy:

of the Bubblegun, Air Lightly, and Harrison Ford

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bubblegun has landed.

We have received our album, it’s packaged, polished and looking very pretty.
It is with great pleasure that we announce:

"Marley Thorn and the Bubblegun" goes on sale Monday, November 22nd

For those who simply cannot wait that long, we will have a limited number of pre-release copies on hand for our show this Saturday at the Farmer’s Market- see the last blog for more details. We shall be joined by our friend, Ms. Air Lightly to tantalize you with material off her upcoming debut- we hope to unveil some brand new songs for you, hope that you can make it for the preview!

It’s going to be fun, or rather, as Harrison Ford would say in a distant, half drawl voice “…it will be MORE than fun…”.

Don't call Harrison Ford a liar. See you Saturday!

of Gremlins and The Grainery

The album is back on it's feet, it's walking around and seems to be in great shape, but the doctors would still like to keep an eye on it to be sure. No one at the album making factory seemed to understand how such a thing happened to our CD's. They merely alluded to gremlins in their equipment- these things happen, of course, because gremlins are notoriously fond of messing with technology.
All gremlins have been exorcised, microwaved or otherwise removed from the album, and Gizmo has been severely punished for this inconvenience. They're currently on their way to us, and a new release date will be announced soon!

We're also happy to announce we'll be playing at the farmer's market in Rocky Mount alongside a great selection of local bands- anyone who loves their local music would do well to stop by this Saturday, November 20th. Music's going from noonish till 7- there will even be arts, crafts, baked goods and free hot cider to the upstanding citizens who vote at the event!
The tentative lineup is as follows:
1 PM to 1:45 PM - Groova Scape
2 PM to 2:45 PM - Sam Fochtman & Tobacco Apache
3 PM to 3:45 PM - Barefoot West
4 PM to 4:45 PM - Savannah Shoulders
5 PM to 5:45 PM - Matt Mason
6 PM to 6:45 PM - Marley Thorn

This is all to benefit The Grainery, who are currently taking part in the Pepsi Refresh contest, where your votes can help them receive a grant for their role in the local artistic community! Regardless of whether you can make it, please help them out by voting for them on this link below:

http://www.refresheverything.com/rockymountartcenter

You CAN vote more than once- can anyone beat 70? Let us know and you shall receive great wondrous gifts.

of Deadlines, Delays, and Friday the 13th

Well the moment of truth arrived, and there was much rejoicing, we got the CDs in, they look and sound AWESOME.

We were coasting towards our November 9th release date quite calmly, when all of a sudden we were taken by surprise.

It was very much like the final scene in Friday the 13th, we're like the girl in the boat, and Jason is like our CD.

Yes, we have hit an unexpected snag that has thrown us off our deadline.
The CD's are defective.

Fair enough, not quite as horrific as being dragged out of your boat by a partially decomposed lake boy, but it is slightly more annoying.

On one track, about 2 minutes 30 secs into the song, there is a dropout in the sound. That's it.

Not a very big defect, but a big enough one that when multiplied by a few hundred copies it made us hesitant to distribute the album.

So, the friendly folks making those CDs have offered to replace them all with CDs that play every last second of sound. Seems to be some freak occurrence with the playback that noone can quite understand or explain, but either way we're very happy that its getting sorted out for us. Thanks guys!

Only thing is, this means we will have to push back our release date...
Once we get the CDs back and test them all out, we'll have them released before you know it! (merely an expression, we actually would like you to know about it before we release it, so we'll keep you updated).

In the meantime, check out some of the songs previewed on our myspace or reverb nation pages! We also have our entire set from Gameday's Halloween Bash uploaded to our Youtube Channel, enjoy!

of Compact Discs, Homeless Mustard, and Keith Humphry

Expecting a shipment of CDs today!!! It's like Christmas.
Torn between opening the box ASAP to make sure all is groovy with the design and packaging, or to wait an excruciating length of time before every band member can get off work and gather around the box, chant ominously, and tear the shipment open together with much fanfare and photographs- much more dramatic. Decisions, decisions...

On a lighter note, thanks to Megan Belcher for exposing us to this awesome version of possibly my least favorite Radiohead song (apparently the band themselves don't like it much either). Give it a shot though- it's a great rendition, and as Megan put it "any dude that goes by "Homeless Mustard" is cool in my book"

Also, we thought we'd share our photograph with WDBJ News Anchor Keith Humphry from Saturday night! We were (more than) slightly intoxicated, and covered in fake blood, and he still was nice enough to humor us with a photo!

Thanks Mr. Humphry!

Of Halloween, Gameday, and Post-Apocalyptic Blues

For this Halloween, our friends, the groove specialists, Barefoot West and Gameday Sports Bar in Rocky Mount organized the first annual Gameday’s Halloween Bash- and they invited us to play! So for our costumes this weekend we reprised our former role as The Post-Apocalyptic Blues Band, in a slightly more undead fashion. We’re still working on getting the videos up, but you can see our first two songs from the set Here.

Many highlights from the show- we met, watched, and got to share a stage with some awesome bands, Triscale, The Forrest Baldwin Band, and of course Barefoot West. We were happy to catch up with the new music by Barefoot West and The Forrest Baldwin Band, and very happy to finally hear Triscale’s set, we’d heard a lot about them but had yet to hear their expansive funk-blues rock sound for ourselves, they certainly did not disappoint. During our set we were joined by Ms. Air Lightly, who sang in tones that would make a wolverine purr. Also, Mr. A.J. Dudley provided the cherry on top of the set with his Vincent Price recitation- it was a night to remember. As well as making some new friends, we also encountered a lot of old friends from Franklin County High School- photographs and merriment ensued.

Suffice to say, this show was a lot of fun, we had an excuse to douse ourselves in fake blood (though rest assured it won’t be as long before it’s used again), and the audience was awesome-we saw some excellent costumes. Photos/Videos will be uploaded soon!

New discoveries this week: “Splice” is a surprisingly unique and awesome sci-fi horror movie, definitely worth watching. Also, discovered that “Station to Station” is musical GOLD, not that you can expect any less from Bowie though.
